[lister] shades in tif file

Post by *Senyai »

Hello.

Steps to reproduce:

* setup i_view32.exe as image viewer in lister
* open attached image "test_4.tif" in Irfanview to see that it is a black and white image
* open attached image "test_4.tif" in lister to see colors, that are not just only black and white

At first glance, this is Irfanview's issue. I've contacted Irfanview's author (really nice guy), and he assured me, that he has nothing to do with it, as interface that he is using internally is the same as the one exported. I'm confused.

MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: application/octet-stream; name="test_4.tif"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="test_4.tif"

Attempting to view that .tif file, using F3 in Total Commander, results in a reproducible crash for me. I even tried rebooting my system, running TC, and viewing this image as the first thing, with nothing else running. Pressing F3 causes TC to hang until I click on the X to exit, then I get the crash.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, with TC 8.52 32-bit. The lister plugin that normally handles .tif files for me is Imagine 1.0.9. It continues to view other .tif files fine.

I can view the .tif file using Irfanview. It's a black and white 8x4 pixel image.

I can also view it with ACDSee, however, it displays and totally different black and white 8x4 pixel image. The black and white pixels are arranged in a completely different pattern in the two viewers.

I tried loading it into my copy of Paintshop Pro, and it reports that it is an invalid format for a .tif image, and doesn't display it.

Renaming the image from "test_4.tif" to "test_4._" allows me to view it using lister in TC. It is still an 8x4 black and white image, but with yet a different pixel arrangement than the other two viewers. In other words, that same image file displays differently in three viewers. I suspect that it is not a valid .tif image. TC's lister, using Imagine handles it the worst though, since it's the only one that actually crashes. Why does renaming the image prevent the crash though? Is the crash TC's fault, lister's fault, or Imagine's fault?

Here is the crash report. Exception code 420 is "ERROR_SERVICE_ALREADY_RUNNING".

Strange, no crashes here with this file (Irfanview 4.4, Windows 7 x64 pro). However, the image looks differently in 32-bit and 64-bit: If 32-bit TC it's just black+white, in 64-bit it has some gray pixels.

I'm also using Irfanview 4.4. It crashes here every time with TC's lister using the imagine plugin, but it seems to be Imagine that is crashing. It doesn't crash with Imagine disabled. It's a rather useless image, since no two programs display it the same. GIMP and Paintshop say it's invalid.

Ah, I see - maybe you could send the image to the imagine author?
