[8.52a] When copy from FTP no UAC prompt

Post by *b1Ack »

When trying to copy files from FTP to protected destination ("program files" for example) there is no offer to try do that as elevated administrator, just error or prompt to change destination.

Well, I confirm the issue, but I don't think it's a bug but intended behavior. Why? Well, TC's admin helper can't make its own connection to the FTP server you're on (limited connections per IP, credentials problem, to name only two). So, TC would have to download the file to some temporary location and then call the admin helper to move the file to the intended destination. Pretty much hassle, if you ask me, and that's why I think it's not a bug.

Well - if you are already running TC as Admin - then the file is just downloaded to the restricted folder, so why can't TC just do the same after UAC confirmation?

Seems like I didn't elaborate enough. TC doesn't write to restricted directories when a UAC dialog is confirmed, but the admin helper tool tcmadmin.exe. That program does all the work related to restricted directories. Since it's a separate process, it would have the issues explained above.

I hope this makes it a bit clearer.
