USB cable recommendations

Post by *PharmaBoy »

I'm a new user - forgive me if this has been covered previously - and recently. I'm looking for a cable to connect two computers to synch using Total Commander. I have old Laplink cables - both blue and orange USB B connectors. It does not seem that those work? Might anyone advise?

AND, does the file transfer recognize dates - i.e., can it be set to ONLY copy newer over older? Thanks.

Unsupported Cables
...
- <noname> - USB Easy Datalink (for all Windows Systems)
It's about this, who can tell me?

No, that cable won't work. I found the same cable on Ali Express with a bit more details: It comes with its own file transfer software "EasyCopy" and can only be used with that software.

Their website says:
Driver:
USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Transfer Cable - Windows cable driver included in Windows Updates
Laplink Easy Transfer Cable / Silver 2.0 - Windows Easy Transfer cable driver included in Windows Updates
There is a link for the drivers as well. From the contents it looks like working on top of Prolific chip. So should theoretically work with TC. Did you install the driver? Make sure to unload their software (PCmover) from memory before trying to connect via TC.

In that case, it's not no, it's yes. OK.

That was a different cable.

Total Commander will work when the cable uses this driver:
Laplink Easy Transfer Cable / Silver 2.0 - Windows Easy Transfer cable driver included in Windows Updates

Thank you. While a "orange" Laplink cable did NOT work, a "blue" Laplink cable worked. I see I just needed to "NET" Port connection - test and then connect.

And sorry- dumb question - how do i get the other computer to show up in the Total Commander screen?

Thanks.

Just connect from both sides - one as a server and one as a client - and you'll get both computers files displayed in TC (if successful). Btw I believe both your cables should work. For USB 3.0 cable you likely need to install all the software that comes with that cable, then unload it completely and then initialize the connection. From what I see, the USB 3.0 cable uses BC103702-DD72-406f-9B28-95C868337B59 guid, that's the same as for Delock Cable Data Link + KM Switch USB 3.0. In that case you should have TC 9 or newer and the manufacturer's driver installed.
