Multi rename tool

Post by *miskox »

As we all know multi rename tool is very useful. I use it alot. I have two questions>

1. Sometimes TC writes a message Warning, duplicate names . Continu? Is there a way to see which files are problematic? If I have hundreds of files to rename it is hard to locate the problematic files.

2. Let's say that we have a directory c:\AAA with the following subdirectories BBB, CCC, DDD, EEE. All these subdirecties have different files in them:

c:\aaa\bbb\image01.jpg ---> should become c:\aaa\bbb\bbb 01.jpg
c:\aaa\bbb\image02.jpg --->and so on
c:\aaa\bbb\image03.jpg
c:\aaa\bbb\image04.jpg
c:\aaa\ccc\image01.jpg
c:\aaa\ccc\image02.jpg
c:\aaa\ccc\image03.jpg
c:\aaa\ddd\image01.jpg
c:\aaa\ddd\image02.jpg
c:\aaa\ddd\image03.jpg
c:\aaa\eee\image01.jpg
c:\aaa\eee\image02.jpg

I position myself into c:\aaa and press CTRL/B. I select all the files and press CTRL/T. Now New filename should be [P] [C1+1:2] and extension stays unchanged [E].
The question is: is it possible to start a counter from the begginingeach time directory changes? Ok .The example above is easy. I can use part of a filename but what in the case that there are not any number (counters) in a filename or if they are at different positions?

c:\aaa\bbb\aimage.jpg ---> should become c:\aaa\bbb\bbb 01.jpg
c:\aaa\bbb\bimage.jpg ---> should become c:\aaa\bbb\bbb 02.jpg
c:\aaa\bbb\cimage.jpg ---> should become c:\aaa\bbb\bbb 03.jpg
c:\aaa\bbb\dimage.jpg ---> should become c:\aaa\bbb\bbb 04.jpg
c:\aaa\ccc\aimage.jpg ---> should become c:\aaa\bbb\ccc 01.jpg
c:\aaa\ccc\dimage.jpg ---> should become c:\aaa\bbb\ccc 02.jpg
c:\aaa\ccc\gimage.jpg ---> should become c:\aaa\bbb\ccc 03.jpg
c:\aaa\ddd\aimage.jpg ---> should become c:\aaa\bbb\ddd 01.jpg
c:\aaa\ddd\bimage.jpg ---> should become c:\aaa\bbb\ddd 02.jpg
c:\aaa\ddd\cimage.jpg ---> should become c:\aaa\bbb\ddd 03.jpg
c:\aaa\eee\dimage.jpg ---> should become c:\aaa\bbb\eee 01.jpg
c:\aaa\eee\eimage.jpg ---> should become c:\aaa\bbb\eee 02.jpg

Thanks,

I'm quite sure it's not possible, not by selecting all the files, the only way would be to select them dir by dir. The counter is per list in the multi-rename.

Cheers.

It's not possible. It's already fine to have the ability to select different dirs to rename their files at once.
