More features for the wish-list

Post by *wanderer »

In comparing two text files by content, it would be nice if TC could do the following:

1. Give you the ability to select one of the lines (left or right) and edit the text somehow (doubleclicking opens a textbox?)

2. Save only the differences on either of the panels to a new text file (separate file for each panel), perhaps in a format like:

Code: Select all

Left file
Line 5
<contents of the line in left file>

Right file
Line 5
<contents of the line in right file>
3. Save a combination of the files in the panels to a new text file (combined file), perhaps in a format like:

Code: Select all

Line1 blah blah
....
Line4 blah blah
***Line 5 Left***
<contents of the line in left file>
***Line 5 Right***
<contents of the line in right file>

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3
x64: Clients/Servers from Win7 to Win11 and Win2K12Srv to Win2K22Srv, mainly Win10 though.

Have a look at this thread:

You'll find some great links for compare-programs too...

Hi Karl, thanks for the link.

I think that it would be nice if the internal compare tool was improved a little, that's why i made these suggestions. I know of external compare programs and i don't expect TC to become like them, but a little (and simple as i believe) improvement would be welcome.

Your welcome! :)

For my part I was really astonished, to find that such programs even exist (in such a multitude).

And so (imho) we can handle it like the picture-viewers: TC gives a little bit, if one needs more we plugin Irfan-/XnView.
But I agree: a little bit of editing during TC-compare would be fine. 8)
