Packer configuration suggestion.

Post by *djk »

Talking to Lefteous ( http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=1597 ) I've found that it would be good to have additional option in Paker Plugins configuration window. This option would allow to configure described here: http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=9256#9256 packer options instead of doing it manually in the ini file. I think it's easy to implement and it would be useful. I know it's an advanced option and not everyone will use it but... as I suppose many users don't add additional packer plugins at all and these who do it would like to have full control to it.
What do you think about it?

BTW: I wasn't sure where to put this post, to general forum or to plugins orum but I've decided to send it here cause most suggestion about TC interface is here :-)

No, the solution would be that the plugin author supports the option 64=detect archive by content. Then the user can associate the plugin with any extension OTHER than .exe, and the plugin would be asked with the function CanYouHandleThisFile() whether it supports the file or not.

This method should only be used in special cases like the above, because it requires that the plugin is always loaded, not only when the user opens a file with that extension...

Hi,

I also think it is not neccesary to have an option for all the packer options
But I think

Code: Select all

256=show as normal files (hide packer icon), open with Ctrl+PgDn, not Enter
is very useful!

Example:
iso-files:
Normally you want to open them with WinIso and yout don't want to view it as archive.

Not sure if I am on topic, but in case there is a file that opens in TC when Enter is pressed on it you can run the associated application using Shift-Enter, IIRC.

My problem is the following;

There is an self extracting executable executable (SelfextractingArchive.exe for example):

I want to:

1) Run The file
2) View the contents of the self extracting archive
3) Have a look at the resources (wcres)

without renaming the file. Is there a way to toggle between the builtin behavior and the packer plugin?

Not that I know of. 2 and 3 conflict as far as I understand how it works.

It seemed to me as if it had been necessary to explain the problem one more time to make clear why we need a new option.
