Copy files with paths

Post by *jdmarch »

After a multi-dir search Alt+F7, followed by Feed to Listbox, there appears to be no simple way to copy the found files to another folder or drive with their various paths. Yet the architecture is apparently already present to do this, as one can archive all the files into a zip file with their paths (and then, if one chooses, unzip them into the desired folder or drive, thus preserving the original paths.

For backup purposes, it would be convenient to be able to do this without the intermediate step of archiving the files.

Thanks

A good idea, but I see one problem (maybe there are some more):
Assumed that you have a drive C: and a D: drive and subdirs called "SubDir" for example. In addition these subdirs contains a file named "File.txt". Now start a search (Search for: File.txt, search in: C:\SubDir;D:\SubDir) and feed to listbox.
Packing the files including path is not possible, because you have to decide which of the files to include (a prompt appears).
The same problem will occur for a future copy function.

Suggestion: What about including the drive letter (as an option) as a directory to avoid conflicts?
Example: C\SubDir\File.txt

Yes. that would be a nice option, but even without this option, I do not think that it would be a problem to have the same limitations on this copy-with-path command as currently exist in the pack-with-path command.

Another nice option (for both the copy and pack commands) would be to omit the first N levels of the path. One would normally only use this option when copying files which all came from different sub-branches of a common branch.

But Christian might feel that these options add more complexity to the interface than their usefulness warrants.

Many thanks, norfie. TreeCopy works perfectly! :D

Just a small note for the convenience of other readers: the domain maxwisch.tk is not registered.
Also, the correct URL of this plugin at clubtotal is:
http://clubtotal.free.fr/tc_wcx/wcx_treecopy.zip
(no "." at the end of the URL)
