Copying, NT, date....

Post by *djk »

I've found strange behaviour of TC during copying executable files (exe, com, bat) from WinNT to Win98 station. In some cases it doesn't preserve dates of files.
I will try to show it on an example.

Let's say I want to copy 2 files (file.txt and file.exe) from WinNT 4.0 Wrks station to Win98 (copying form Win98 to Win98 works ok).

1. I copy it to not mapped share (I mean first I call in one of TC panel command cd \\comp98\share1). Everything is Ok, all the source dates of files are preserved.

2. I copy it to the mapped share (I mapped the share as a drive X: ). It's not Ok now - the date of file.txt is preserved and file.exe - has new, current date. Surprise! :-(

3. If I use for copying Windows Explorator - it works correctly.

Any ideas why it works this way?

BTW: If I copy with TC to Samba shares mapped as drives it also works correctly.

This problem is caused by Norton Antivirus. NAV prevents TC from re-opening the file to set the file date, because it locks the file for virus scanning...

I don't use NAV I use Panda Platinum but.... it's true... !!!
When I disable Panda it works OK.

But why it works even with Panda on NOT mapped share or why it works with Windows Explorator?
Are there any chances TC work also ok with Antivirus software?

I have no idea - the antivirus makers probably adapted their scanner to work with the Explorer copy method.

You can still copy with Ctrl+C Tab Ctrl+V, this copies via Explorer.

It works, thanks (but I still prefer F5 :-) )
