Sorry, but I can't see any advantage of dropdown menu against combobox display.

Is there any ?

That's a matter of opinion, and if u must know mine: I like it the way it is now with the combobox, and I hope it's not changed.
Of all the planets I've been to, this one is my favorite.

If the dropdown menu allows right-clicking on items then it would be a nice change.
Using the combo-box (as it is now) does not allow right-click, so you can not select 'properties'/'eject'/etc for a certain drive. I know you can do that in the drives button bar but I keep that hidden coz I have too many drives and they don't fit well in the GUI. :)

Completely agree with you, Aezay comrad. I'll rather see all this dropdowns burning in Hell...[/face]

Sorry but is does allow right click!

Do not press the dropdown arrow, but the active drive...
But what I like to see is:

THE NAMES OF THE CD-ROMS!

Now is just says:
[G] CD-ROM
[H] CD-ROM
CD-ROM

I like:
[G] Audio CD
[H] MSOFFICE
123354AATEST

cheers,

Mike

BTW: a display choice (option) for the dropdown /combo would be nice.

you can add a section [DriveHints] in your TC ini file (see help file)

[DriveHints]
G=Audio CD .............One line with a drive letter for each drive you want to rename
H=DVD
...

but I don't think it is possible to display the volume labels in the dropdown menu :(

Yeb. thanx for the tip.
I just found out in TCtweak.

But the VOLUME LABELS would be not only nice,

I would say even obligatory for a program of this kind.

So where's the problem??
Can't that be easily fixed?

I presume Herr Ghisler is aware of this, but has A LOT of
other fixes for us ready in the TC5.52+ release.
Let's be patient

P.S.: just a general thought that slipped my mind
(not personal to you Ben hub!):

I don't want TC to edit my Word documents, send my mail, flip/scan
my pictures or burn my CD's (let the plugin-writers fix that ok?),
I just want Total Control over my FILES!!

Do - NOT - loose the picture here..

Ciao,

MIKE out.

keep cool

IMHO there is nothing to fix, I don't want this feature.

Just try this: click on a CD drive. How long does is take to detect the drive is empty ? too long. How long to start reading the data on a CD ? too long.

So if you have several CD/DVD drives, imagine the time to detect the volume label - if there is one - on each drive !!!

100% agree with you - and Christian is not mistaken there.
So may I suggest you write a plugin for the users who would be interested?

Just wanna to get that of my chest, for all the "I want that, I wish, I suggest, I need, I must" guys. Just like me with my vol. names

I like the menu as shown in the bitmap, though. Notice it has a favorites section and the free space to the right.

This is an example of overloading an existing function with new functions unobtrusively, but in a beneficiary manner. The more options for how I interact with each part of TC, the better.

So, I like the proposal as presented in the bitmap.

I know it allows right-click but only on the current dispayed drive. I would like to see the whole drop-down list (ALL drives) and right click on ANY of them, not only on the current one. It's useful mainly for ejecting the ZIP drive or the CD. Anyway, I use gizmo as a replacement and it does a good job. :)
