"StartIsBack"-App can remove context menu entry, but not for TC

Post by *Octopuss »

I hope there are people here who use StartIsBack.
There is a feature that removes "pin to start" context menu entry, because it only works with the the original Windows layout, and not the classic one the program creates. It uses its own "pin to start menu".
I noticed that if I right click on any .exe from withing TC, there is still the old "pin to start" in the context menu.
Can anyone figure out what's wrong? It behaves like expected from the standard Explorer.

Do you use TC 32 bit or 64 bit?

Maybe:
https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
disable "Pin To Start Screen verb handler"?
In case you are using a 32 Bit TC:
Also disable the entry after you activate
ShexView->Options -> Show 32-Bit Shell Extensions

Nope, I'm sure I solved it without third party stuff.

And StartIsBack is not third party stuff?:confused:

Maybe StartIsBack removes only the part not matching the bit-ness of your TC and your are currently using a 32-Bit TC on a 64-Bit system?

Be assured that I successfully removed the menu entry using the above mentioned nirsoft tool for both the 32 bit TC and the 64 bit TC.

You don't understand at all.
Startisback has nothing to do with it (with the solution). SIB is at the beginning, and it doesn't work properly in TC. I am trying to solve that and only that. The problem cannot be the solution, thus SIB has nothing to do with it. Capisci?
Besides, the problem is not only the old "pin to start" remaining in context menu of TC, but also the new "pin to start menu" being absent.

And I do not use 32bit TC. Why would I in this time and age? Also, I already wrote that!

This is a system shell extension which can be disabled with the above mentioned tool.
If the SIB-installer removes this extension and replaces it with its own (that why you see SIB's "pin to start" in 64-Bit Explorer) _and_ you still see this old system shell extension in TC, my guess is that you started the 32-Bit version of TC!
Just to be sure:
TC->"Help-> About Total Commander" shows
---------------------------
About Total Commander
---------------------------
Total Commander Version 9.21a 64 bit (2018-08-21)
or does it show
---------------------------
About Total Commander
---------------------------
Total Commander Version 9.21a 32 bit (2018-08-21)
Shell extensions are COM based implementations which exist twice for 32 and 64 bitness.
Looks like the SIB-Installer replaced only the 64-Bit Version and not the 32-Bit version of this shell extension....

Not directly related to the problem
but why should I spend money for a tool which I can get for free by using the old Classic Shell.
This still works perfect for me even with Windows version 1809.
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3374)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86

No and no, but you are the only one who can check it, to be 100% sure.
There are several TC-Setups. One which includes both versions, 64-Bit and 32Bit; and you may have started by accident the x86 version.
In how many languages do I need to write it in for you?
Just simply post the content of "help->about" and we can eliminate a potential logical cause of your problem.

Kind regards

Why should I? I don't need to repeat what version I run ten times over and over and I don't need to prove anything to you. I already told you what I have here. Either accept it as a fact or move on. Thus far, you helped nothing.

@ghisler
Can you take a look at this please?
It seems like TC can't "read" the new "pin to start" StartIsBack adds to the system.

When StartIsBack adds non-standart entries why is it the job of other tools to support that ?
