Example: viewtopic.php?p=325495#325495 (german) but can be translated into English with Google translate:
https://translate.google.de/translate?sl=de&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fghisler.ch%2Fboard%2Fviewtopic.php%3Fp%3D325495%23325495
If you want to do this, then be sure to use the codes from the German forums, because sometimes spaces are inserted during translation.

For security reasons, "C:\Program Files" and "C:\Program Files (x86)" are read-only for users without elevated admin privileges.
You could install TC not in these folders, but e.g. under C:\Tools. Then this problem should no longer exist.

Note:
TC can also be used portable. In this case, simply add the following entry in the file wincmd.ini
in section [Configuration]: UseIniInProgramDir=7 (for more infos: Press F1 -> Help)

Otherwise you could give the folder C:\Program Files\totalcmd change authorization.
1. right click on folder totalcmd (C:\Program Files\totalcmd) (context menu appears)
2. click on "Properties", then select the "Security" tab
3. give your user (user) modification authorization ("change")
Personally, however, I cannot recommend this procedure (see statement above).

Ctrl+D -> "Add current dir" -> ☑ "Also save the target dir"
Press F1 (Help) and search for "directory hotlist" (without quotes) to find out more.

Writing to wincmd.ini fails when it's in a directory where you don't have write rights. Such protected directories are c:\windows, c:\Program Files and c:\Program Files (x86).

You can either reinstall Total Commander and choose a different location for the ini files (the default is Documents and Settings), or press Alt+Enter on wincmd.ini and give everyone full access to the file. If the file isn't there yet, create it elsewhere with Shift+F4, copy it to the displayed location, and then give everyone full access.
