PORT Connection To Other PC: download errors

Post by *stuno »

Hi all,

I have a problem with PORT Connection To Other PC.
I use LPT port. The computers connect, I can manage the files on the server computer, but when transfering larger amount of data (a file) I always get first 'Download error: 4' and then 'Download error: 5' on the server . After that I get 'Transfer failed, continue operation?' message on client. Whether I click 'yes' or 'no', the transfer is interupted, but the connection remains open.

Both computers have Windows 2000 Professional.

The 'test' said something like 'this side of cable OK' on both computers.

Please give me a solution ASAP.

Make sure to remove/uninstall the 'direct cable connection' of Windows 2000, or at least unbdind it from the parallel port - it can interfere with my own port connection. TC does lock the port, but unfortunately Microsoft's own drivers simply ignore it. :(

Also some bidirectional printers can cause this - try to connect them to FILE: instead of LPT1 for the time of the connection.
