Don't change panel focus on selection

Post by *bogordo »

Hi,

After lot of search did not find this: i know there is a setting for not changing the active panel focus even if i click/select files in the inactive panel, thus, maintaining the active panel active.

Need this to copy a folder from left panel to several different drives and paths in the right panel...

Thank you,

Ok i mixed this idea with the option in Config - Folder tabs - Activate target panel on tab, not the same, but could work once i set the different paths to where i want to backup/copy as tabs in target panel.

Maybe the last option in the Copy dialog: "Copy to all selected folders/links in target panel" - is what you need?

Thank you Peter,

This option is working fine for folders within the same Tab/folder, in my case i need the copy to folders in different Tabs/folders. I see the selected highlight maintains between the different tabs but the copy is done only in the actual target-visible tab.

Other file managers have this option (keep selection), so I assume TC has it too (somewhere ...).

Easiest workaround I can think of: Use CTRL-C, CTRL-V instead on your selection of files.

The active selection is not removed by clicking on the inactive side.
Also there is the function "Restore selection" which can be used after each copy.
Its mapped by default to Num /
So I don't see what the posters problem is ?

The idea is to copy in one single operation 1 folder to 3 folders:
Let's say a folder from Source:Active panel-Tab1 to Target/s:Inactive panel-Tab2 (c:...Google Drive), -Tab3 (p: Cloud storage, mounted virtual drive), Tab4 (d: external HD).

Even if i select the source target and the 3 folders inside Tab2,3,4, the selection is mantained but the Multiple copy is not made, is made only to let's say Tab2.

Then I msunderstood your request. Sorry.

Maybe @petermad's suggestion can help you here:
petermad wrote: 2020-04-11, 06:31 UTC Maybe the last option in the Copy dialog: "Copy to all selected folders/links in target panel" - is what you need?
as it can also be used to copy to LINKS to folders (put those links together in 1 folder)

@horst.epp: thanks for the NUM+/ tip !

bogordo,
That is why petermad suggested to create links to all target folders (Target: Tab2, 3, 4) in one folder (Target: Tab1), select the links before copy and enable "Copy to all selected folders/links in the target panel".

The active selection is not removed by clicking on the inactive side.
But if you are using left button selection (Configuration -> Operation -> Mouse selection mode) - the selection is lost when you click in the former active side once again.

I can only STRONGLY recommend to use right button selection, then the selections are always preserved from being erased by left mouse clicks.

If you want to preserve your selection while changing path the opposite panel, either use right mouse button selection OR use the Tab key to switch between panels.

Thanks but creating links each time is more work than simply changing from tab to tab with Ctrl+v...

petermad
Thanks Peter, i'm actually using right mouse selection ("as in NC" and opening with single click) but as i said even if the selected folders in different tabs (Tab2, 3 and 4) remain selected/highlighted the "multiple" copy does not work, only works for current active Tab2.

No for me !
I click only the bar above the headers, its the same as using the tab key.
No need to click inside of the window.

To copy in one single operation 1 folder to 3 folders, take a look at:

Thanks jinsight, will look into it.

As mentioned before, deactivating the "Activate target panel when clicking on one of its Tabs" option is an aproximation; once i have the target tabs i press F5 and change tabs without loosing source focus.

Sure, thats also a way (instead of pressing Tab) - I was merely pointing out that the selection does not have to be lost, as it does if you (and probably what bogordo does) click in the panel to put focus back to the original active panel.
