Re: RSS feed tests

Sorry, it seems that a recent change I made redirected also the feed URLs from https to http, so http only feed readers stopped working.
I have added exceptions now for the relevant URLs. Please try again now.

Christian,
Unfortunately it still does not work for me:

Feed URL:

Code: Select all

Request:

Accept: text/html, */*
Accept-Encoding: gzip
User-Agent: NewzCrawler/1.9 (compatible; MSIE 6.00; Newz Crawler 1.9; http://www.newzcrawler.com/ )
Response:

Code: Select all

And then my feed URL automatically changes to https, and upon the next refresh I get nothing. So it seems I still get redirected from http to https.
If you could please check your logs?

Thank you.

Please try again now. I was only supporting URLs in the form
http://www.ghisler.ch/board/app.php/feed
but yours starts with
http://www.ghisler.ch/board/app.php/smartfeed

This should work now too! Sorry for the troubles.

Christian,
Yay, it works! Could you please also change it for the test forum?

Thank you

Hurdet,
Is there a way to set a specific post count if I want to retrieve more than the 15 latest posts using your link?

TIA

OK, I have added it for the phpBB3 path too.

Can't you choose this via the field "Maximum number of items in the feed"?

Works, appreciated!

That's for "Smartfeed". I wanted to test the default feed (app.php/feed) functionality.

But in your URLs above there is "smartfeed" included, so I assumed that you are using it?

Re: RSS feed tests

Post by *Hacker »

Christian,
Let me explain. My RSS feed reader (NewzCrawler) has the unique feature that it shows forum posts in their respective threads, i.e. if there is a new post in an old thread, I can immediately see the whole thread. It is similar to the Conversations view in Outlook. Now after the big forum upgrade (two years ago) this feature does not work anymore. I assume it's due to the new RSS feed format where my RSS reader cannot find some flag or attribute to see that "this post belongs to this thread".

Now, I use "Smartfeed". Hurdet pointed out in his post that "feed" works fine for him. So I wanted to try it out as an alternative to see if perhaps my RSS reader recognizes the threaded format again using "feed". It's a long shot but I wanted to give it a try. To be able to test it it would be beneficial to specify more than the default 15 new posts, let alone if the threaded view worked and I wanted to start using it as my default feed. That's why I wondered if there was some parameter or some other way to specify more than the default 15 posts to be included in the RSS feed for "feed".

15 is the preset global value for feed.php. It can only be changed for all users, not via parameter. Should I increase it? If yes, to which value?

Christian,
Ah, well, never mind then. I would prefer 1000 but that seems excessive for most users.

Christian,
Could you please shorten the forum names for the RSS feed? They used to be shortened to "Deu", "Eng", "Plugins", "TC9.5x bugs", "TC for Android", "Suggestions", "Slovak and Czech", etc., but now they have their full names again.

TIA

Strange, I copied that over to the new version. Do you use smartfeed or the regular feed?
