Sort Order: always start TC in the same way?

I would like to have Total Commander to always open up to having folders sorted by name and secondly by date. So I went into the configuration-options-view mode and set it that way. When I pressed apply it worked fine. Then if I go to another folder and change the sort to "by extension" that changes appropriately. The if I exit Total Commander and open it again it has the sort "by extension" rather than sort by name & date.

Please tell me how I can keep the opening sort to my desired setting.

After I did the sort I click on apply and then ok. Like I said the sort order does show up the way I want it once I clicked on apply-ok. But if I change after to some other sort and the close TC (by clicing in the upper right on the "X", when I again open TC the sort order is not what I set in the view mode.

If you want to set it with a View Mode, then you have to remember to activate the setting "Configuration" -> "Options..." -> "Auto Switch Mode" -> "Automatically switch view mode on directory change"

I am still not quite sure what to do. I would like to first sort by name and then date which is the way I have view mode set. I also setup autoview mode. If I change a folder to sort by ext then change the folder it now sorts by name and ext not date. So please help.

I think the problem partly lies in your "Additional sort orders:" here you have 4,4 for <default> that means that you have set it twice to aditionally sort by date - try with ONLY 4 in that field in stead of 4,4.

Also you have chosen the View Mode "Sort by Name" for the Auto Switch Mode "D" - you should change that to <default> for "D"

I would like to have Total Commander to always open up to having folders sorted by name and secondly by date.
Then if I go to another folder and change the sort to "by extension" that changes appropriately.
Then if I exit Total Commander and open it again it has the sort "by extension" rather than sort by name & date.

That's exactly what happens to me here. Tested with a TC_clean_x64.ini and your settings.

If I change a folder to sort by ext then change the folder it now sorts by name and ext not date.

This does NOT happen with me at the moment, if I only execute this e.g. in the left TC window.
But if I change the TC-window with TAB, it is not automatically sorted by file extension -> the previous view remains.

can in this case also adjust the view e.g. in the right TC window.

Also you have chosen the View Mode "Sort by Name" for the Auto Switch Mode "D" - you should change that to <default> for "D"

I agree.

The View Mode is not needed at all in this case from my point of view.

Hmm, you should try with a clean ini file with only what I wrote in my privious post.

So put it for example in a file called test.ini and start a copy of TC with the command line parameter /i=drive:\path\test.ini

Example:

That is not true: Assending/Descending will not be set by repeating the the parameter: 4,4 and 1,1 - it is set by negating the parameter (for Descending): -4 and -1

So 4,4 just means: Date, Ascending (0..9), Date, Ascending (0..9)
and it does not result in Descending Date sorting
