Multi-name Not Working

Post by *patetcmi »

When I try to rename multiple files I can't change the file names to what I want. Trying to use find and replace just brings up the last name I changed. I need to clear the history of renames and find out why I can no longer change multiple names. It used to work just fine and I didn't change anything but it no longer works.

I tried removing TC and reinstalling it but that didn't help.

Thanks for any help in this matter.

The Multi-Name Tool won't let me rename anything. I also can't Search & Replace. When I try to add a name and then replace it it only brings up the previous name I replaced.

What more can I say to explain this?

I'm using the latest version of TC (x64) 9.51 with Windows10 on an HP Laptop.

Can you create a "new textdocument.txt" in C:\Temp or in your own C:\Users\xx\My Documents folder.
Then select that file in TC and open the Multi-RenameTool and try to rename that to TotalCmdTest.txt ?

If not, can you rename it with WInExplorer or from command line?

It could be a good idea if you provide a screenshot* of the multi-rename window and explain what you're trying to achieve (what the names should look like).

*) Upload it to an external site and post a link to it here.

Maybe you try to rename files in a directory where you don't have the necessary write rights, e.g. under
c:\Program Files
c:\Program Files (x86)
or
c:\Windows ?
