You can't buy a Windows license for $10. Even the "let's pretend legal", secondhand OEM licenses cost like ~$25 in Russia. And those can be used only on a single computer and you need to buy more, as you replace your computers. While TC license is valid forever.
Personally, I see the pricing as reasonable. If AAA games, that are forgotten in a year, can cost $50, why not a tool, that is useful for many years.

I guess your Windows license is a pirated unofficial thing.
The Total Commander license is in fact a life time version and has a reasonable price.
If its to expensive for you use one of the many available free file managers.

I wouldn't go that far. Some OEMs ask only a symbolic price for including a Windows license with a new computer.
And years ago, I too questioned the price of TC. But when I compared what I payed for games, nights out with friends, cable TV, and other unnecessary stuff every year, Total Commander's price suddenly made a lot more sense.

There are two reasons why Total Commander is quite expensive:
1. You get unlimited free updates (this is since 1993!)
2. You are allowed to use Total Commander on an unlimited count of computers, at home, at work, on notebooks in virtual machines, with just one license.

Are you joking? Some software to expand text e.g. cost about the same but are limited to 1 year of updates only.
I used bought a lot of smaller software - and there is only one I really never regret to have bought!
Thanks!
Re: 55 $ for License ??? o_O
When I bought Total Commander over twenty years ago (it was called Windows Commander back then), I paid $35 for it. I use it EVERY day, it is the most useful piece of software I have ever owned. If I had paid $200 for it it would still be a bargain.
Now it is only $55? It's has only increased from $35 to $55 in over twenty years? The word bargain is not even strong enough; it is a steal, worth far more than $55, especially considering the lifetime free upgrades, and unlimited number of computers.

Actually we never icreased the price in Swiss Francs, it's just that the dollar dropped that much since then - Total Commander always cost 40 Swiss Francs. We are now using a fixed Euro price instead (37 Euro) and plan to keep this even when the Swiss Franc goes up more. But the dollar will probably drop even more with the big deficits of the USA...

Well, the price seemed a bit high for me too BUT, considering everything is Lifetime + you can use it on any every device you want to AND also considering that i personally know what it means to actually develop a software program, i've reconsidered. The price is more than fine for me, especially since i'm an OLD MAN, used to work with stuff like Norton Commander or Xtree Gold (remember those days?).
Thanks for this piece of software mr. Ghisler, i can't use Windows without a file manager, i'm too used to the old school times
