Unpacking archives with password (RC3)

Post by *KTrh »

When unpacking archives (zip) that requires a password, the input password dialogue box flashes aggressively for about a second or two before, before a new dialog box appears. In my dark mode the whole dialog box is black (no visible text for me) while the two buttons are white without any text, but I assume that the left is quit or ok, while the right is probably cancel. Pressing cancel allows the aggressive flashing of the input password box to continue, while pressing the left button quits TC.

Sorry, cannot reproduce either - I tried with 32-bit and 64-bit TC on Windows 10.

Is it a very big archive? Some virus scanners can slow down a system a lot when opening a large ZIP because they will try to scan each individual file inside.

Judging from the description that the left button quits TC, I suspect that TC crashes for you and the dialog you're seeing (well, or not seeing ;)) is the TC exception handler dialog. If you can reproduce the behavior, I suggest you take a screenshot of that dialog and press Ctrl+C to copy any text and then post both of them here.

Note that when making a screenshot with Alt+PrintScrn it gets copied to the clipboard, and the same happens when pressing Ctrl+C in a dialog. In other words, you need to paste the screenshot/text somewhere before copying the other one.

That could be the case - one user had this problem with a password manager program which tried to put data in the master password dialog.

Here is a screenshot Image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/279w6a1byhm8h2m/tc.png. I have however isolated the error to be related to HP Protective Tools which tries to detect and intervene when it senses a password field poping up. Having terminated the process DPAgent the problem is resolved.

Thanks for the info. What does this tool do when it detects a password field?
It sounds to me that it subclasses the field and then catched all input, but what does it do with the input?

That is a very good question. I suppose it wants to assist users by storing passwords, but I am not using it (it comes preinstalled with my work computer, which is recently reinstalled and unfortunately I forgot to disable this)...

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.
