minimized tree view

Post by *bigriver »

is it possible to use a minimized tree view, i.e. only show the folders I am working on?

I used the company network folder and it is a very large folder with hundreds of subfolders. The tree view is very good for the local devices which i have limited numbers of folders, but for the network drive, it is too large to display. Can i just display the folders i am working on?

Could you please explain in more detail what you mean? For example, how should Total Commander know which projects you are currently working on? Example:
You are in
f:\users\bigriver\projects\Arizona
now you want to go to
f:\users\bigriver\projects\California
How should TC know that it should show projects Arizona and California, but not the other states?

Its possible in some way.
XYplorer calls this feature MiniTree
but I tried it and didn't like the way it works.

So how does it work? Do you pin the folders you want to see? Or does it just accumulate folders when you enter them? How do you reset that?

If you start it, it only shows the dirs from the tabs on both sides in the tree.
You can always switch back to this view
and also store and load versions of the Mini tree.
If you change folders on any side or in the tree it adds this folders to the tree.
So it works and you don't have or need the normal full tree.
Depending of the environment it is definitely useful.

Interesting - are they being preserved when you close and re-open the program?

Yes the state is restored by default.
Another nice function I like is to create a Mini tree based on the history.

What happens when folders in that tree are deleted in Explorer while the program is closed? Does it rescan everything, or just show the missing folders?

I tried the XYPLORER free version, and the minitree is very interesting and only shows folder I opened. I can choose to hide it from the minitree. If I delete a folder while it is closed, it automatically delete it. The minitree is preserved after closing and re-opening.

If I turn off the minitree, the tree becomes same like TC tree.
