Bypass question during mass copy ?

Post by *kadkam »

I have thrown a copy of several terabytes of files. But overnight it got stuck at prompting for confirmation to write a file (an excessive length problem) and copying stopped in the meantime.
If I remember correctly, it seems to me that Tc copied all the files anyway and left the ones with the question last, but this did not happen.
(For the copy I used the F5 + F2 method, copy in bakground)

LongNameCopy=1 should solve that:
Help wrote:LongNameCopy=0 During file operations, warn if target name is longer than 259 characters:
0=always
1=never
2=if source name isn't longer than 259 characters
3=disallow long names

TC often asks me questions, when I'm doing mass copying, and other processes, such as deleting - which stops the process, until I press a button.
Maybe I have not set all "bypass questions during file operations" settings. :roll:

Until I learn how to do that, I successfully use another program for mass copying / moving, called FastCopy.
It's freeware, easy to google, and easy to combine with TC. Latest version is 3.92.
Up until now, this has worked perfectly for me on my Windows 8.1 desktop computer, and my, fully updated, Windows 10 laptop PC and NUC server.

One of the many very useful things is, you can tell it NEVER to ask ANY questions.
The downside is, of course, that you have to make a quick file compare with TC afterwards looking for skipped files.
..But that's life. :wink: You take some (advantages) - and you give some (conveniences)

If you are interested, I can provide you with my FastCopy settings, and how I implement it in TC.

These settings should ensure the least amount of confirmation alerts:

[Cofiguration]
LongNameCopy=1
SkippedFileCopy=1 (or >=100)
CopyDirsAsAdmin=2

[Confirmation]
deleteDirs=0
MouseActions=0
OverwriteFiles=0
OverwriteHidSys=0
OverwriteReadonly=0
OverwriteHidSysNotReadonly=0
SyncConfirmOverwrite=0

Help wrote:SkippedFileCopy=1 1: First copy all files where the user doesn't need to be asked and skip all with errors, ask at the end
0: Copy all files in order, ask for confirmation when needed
>=100: Like 1, but sets number of milliseconds at start during which the user will be asked too (default 5000)

ThankU for the list of settings for least amount of confirmation alerts. I will try it out.
Especially I have high hopes for the 'SkippedFileCopy' setting. :o
