Error - Synchronise only supports the following combinations

Post by *aussieboykie »

I am getting the subject message every time I try to use the cm_FileSync command. This same command works fine with Windows Commander. Any ideas?

Do you really get the error message every time you try to synchronize?

For the sake of easier discussion I quote the complete error message here:

Error - Synchronize only supports the following combinations:
directory<->directory
directory<->zip archive
directory<->ftp server
zip archive<->zip archive (compare only)

Probably you just try a combination that is not listed, don't you?
On my computer it works and I'm using TC V5.51 with Windows 2000.
For instance I get the error message when I try to synchronize a SelF-eXtracting SFX CAB (V1.3) archive with a directory.
If I remember correctly the combination "directory<->zip archive" had some limitations with older versions of WC/TC. It worked if the .zip file was created by WC/TC or by WinRAR, but not if it was created by WinZip V8.0. Fortunately this problem seems to be solved (I don't know since when).

Yes, I get the message every time I try to synchronise directories. Windows Commander 4.51 works flawlessly on exactly the same structures. I experience the identical problem on two separate systems.

Synchronize doesn't work if you cannot access the parent directory of the two compared dirs.

Error - Synchronise only supports the following combinat

I'm fairly new to Total Commander. I purchased the software to transfer files between my Samsung Galaxy s5 Android OS and my Windows 7 PC. I can transfer files with no problem, but if I try to use the "Synchronize directories" under Commands, I get this same message when trying to sync a PC dir with a dir in the Android's SD Card. Is there a work around that I am missing?
Error - Synchronize only supports the following combinations:
directory<->directory
directory<->zip archive
directory<->ftp server
zip archive<->zip archive (compare only)

The Windows functions to access virtual folders like Android devices are too limited to work with Sync.
You need to install the Android ADB plugin, it allows to sync files with Android:

The MediaAudio2 plugin may also work, but most devices don't support the copying of the timestamp this way, so sync will not show equal files after comparing.

Okay, I should have realized that fact.
Thanks for the plug-in suggestions.
