[9.50] For some FTP servers, the Shift+F5 dialog has empty checkbox label

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[9.50] For some FTP servers, the Shift+F5 dialog has empty checkbox label

Post by *Flint »

1. Start TC, run FTP New Connection, enter ftp.rarlab.com, connect. (Important! It depends on the FTP server, and may not be reproduced with other URLs!)
2. Select any file/dir on the FTP, press Shift+F5.
3. The "Preserve file dates" checkbox has empty text label:

In 9.50β5 the dialog now does not have the date/time checkbox at all. I guess, that's because the server does not support the required feature?
If so, the fix is confirmed.

I can confirm that, but on my own webhotel and on ftp.drivehq.com (anonymous login) I see the "Preserve file dates" text and box - so I guess it can be considered fixed

Ah, yes, I should have been more specific. Indeed, the checkbox is now absent on that particular FTP; on the other ones (where there originally wasn't a problem) it's still there.

Wouldn't it make more sense to grey the checkbox and text out instead of hiding them completely? Hiding means function does not exist, greying out means it is not supported / applicable in the current context.

I agree - that's what I would expect.

But I do not agree with you. Perhaps, it’s better to hide the checkbox, rather than disable it.
For you can disable it crookedly (and this happens in half the cases, and only misinforms the user), but it is impossible to hide crookedly ;-)

Let me explain: in order to correctly disable the checkbox, you also need to change its value to the actual for the given situation, and remember the real value and then restore it.
I think few people will want to engage in such mozahism :-)

Correct.

I also hide it in F5 upload dialog.
