Odds on a point update after 9.50 release ;-)

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Odds on a point update after 9.50 release ;-)

Post by *harrismail »

I can see that Christian is trying his very best to make sure the 9.50 release is as "perfect" as possible this time by releasing quite a number of betas.
I wonder what are the odds for a quick point update just after the final release of 9.50
It seems to happen with every major release - we should have a poll on it ;-)
Just having a bit of fun... :D

I agree with you.
The first pre-beta dates back to 15.05.19 and the latest versions concern, not only, but very often the Dark Mode. As I was able to write for v9.22 we are now accustomed to the X.XXa versions and probably the audience of users who can discover new bugs would widen and the "perfection" of the X.XXa version will certainly be greater.

Not even these lines want to be a criticism, they just want to remind the author that "perfection" is often just a distorted opinion of the reality of our world. ;-)

All joking aside I would like to express my eternal gratitude to Christian for all his extremely hard work over the years. I've been a registered user for over 23 years and I can honestly say Total Commander is one program I could not use Windows without!

Why should we have a poll for an decision only Christian has to make ?
We don't know what problems are still in his beta queue and so we can't make suggestion when to end the beta.
For myself I have no problems to have many more betas
if that leads to a stable final release with only minor problems left.

TC 7.50 had 63 betas and prereleases, over 10 months
TC 8.00 had 27 betas and prereleases, over 9 months
TC 8.50 had 17 betas and prereleases, over 5 months
TC 9.00 had 23 betas and prereleases, over 6 months

So the 14 betas, over 3 months, that we have had so far is not unusual.
The first pre-beta dates back to 15.05.19
AFAIK the pre releases has not been public - the first public release is from 16.10.19 - so a little more than 3 months by now - not so bad.

The amount of bug reports has declined quite a bit, so I will start with release candidates soon.
