Crashes immediately upon opening

Post by *paintdoctormd »

I had been running 9.0a when this problem presented itself. Updated to 9.51, did not fix problem. Deleted it entirely and reinstalled fresh, did not fix problem. Running Windows 10 64 10.0.18363 Build 18363. TC opens, and crashes about 1-2 seconds later. Please help.

Although it sounds weird this is probably RAM issue, not TC problem.

Did you test it with a fresh ini file ?
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3527)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1373a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.3, Listary Pro 6.3.0.73
QAP 11.6.3.2 x64

I deleted it completely and reinstalled fresh, does that count as a new .ini file? Is there some sort of Windows log file I could look up to post here to understand what exactly is crashing?

Since you uninstalled and reinstalled TC already, uninstall it again, and select the option to delete the settings files in the uninstaller this time (and delete the TC program directory afterwards). Then install TC again.

The Windows Event Log might contain information about what's happening. Type eventvwr.msc to launch it, then take a look at the Application and System logs, especially for errors and warnings.

My guess is that some other program running in the background is causing this. Some programs inject their own DLLs into all launched processes to be able to provide their functionality. Programs that change the behavior of windows in general (e.g. RBTray, AquaSnap), programs that change screen/window colors (e.g. f.lux), programs that add additional buttons to title bars, virus scanners that let programs run in a sandbox, and so on.

Thank you very much Dalai, deleting the settings and ini files on uninstall did the trick. Must have gotten corrupted somehow? Anyway you saved my life! Much appreciated!

Do you have a backup of the settings? It would be interesting to know what settings caused this...
