Hello german speaking Font.wlx users,

I just put the german readme file for Font.wlx v008 online.
You can find it here: http://www.pete.onlinehome.de/fontwlx/readme_008_deu.htm
Also german language file: http://www.pete.onlinehome.de/fontwlx/Font.Deutsch.lng (right click, save as ...)
Both file versions are the same as in LionTech's current plugin package.

Enjoy
Pete

Hi

Thanks once again for this great plugin.

I got little suggestion: it would be nice if the font name could be displayed at the lister's window title bar. The files with postscript fonts usually have rather strange names (for example: GE04053T.PFM -> GaramondItcTEECon). With this feature there would be no need to switch to info tab, while previewing glyphs each time the font file changes.
Here's what I mean (sorry for my english ;)) - http://www.skellar.com/alek/font_name.gif (6.1 k)

greets
alek

p.s. postanowilem przetlumaczyc plik jezykowy na polski, ale kilka opcji jest dla mnie niejasnych. prosze o pomoc. alek (at) tgw (dot) com (dot) pl

I just installed this plugin on my machine at work (Win2K SP4) and it works great.
:)

However, when I tried to install it in my machine at home (Win98 SE) and it even refused to be loaded because according to it, there were some missing DLL's. Of course I copied the msvcr71.dll to the C:\Windows\System directories, and everywhere I could imagine, including TC's directories, with no success. Could it be that this plugin is using other dll's as well ?

Please Help !

me too, dll problems with win98se:
But it's not the msvcr71.dll

If I use the FileInfo plugin on wlxFONT and check out the SHLWAPI.DLL, I see that the file "apphelp.dll" is missing from my system.

*UPDATE*
I added a apphelp.dll I found on another PC, but the plugin will still not install..

This is a typical case of RTFM. Anything older than Windows 2000 is not supported. I compiled the plugin so that it cannot load on Windows 9x/ME.

1. I did this because it performs better on W2K and later.

2. Because I needed some Unicode functions which are not available on the older systems.

Well LionTech,
I also haven't noticed it cause I use WinXP so I didn't have any problems. But it's a pity. As I know many people still use older versions of Windows (they don't have enough strong hardware to change the OS, they or their companies aren't going to pay Microsoft for an upgrade, etc).
So they will never be able to use your fantastic plugin. It's really pity. :-(
Maybe there is a way to make your plugin old Windows compatible... if not now... maybe in future...
Think about it...

Hello djk, Maxwish, Izvk25,

it is neither working on NT 4.0 nor on W9X/Me.
It does not depend on which DLLs You install, it all depends on gdi32.dll which is different for different operation systems (procedures, routines, functions missing, or not implemented because of different versions of operation systems).

Greets

Couldn't you still support Win9x? It's very easy to detect the operating system. I ask because plugins for Total Commander should support the same operating systems as the program itself. Yes, it means a bit more work, but it saves a LOT of support work afterwards! Im sure that in the time you have answered these posts here in the forum, you could have added Win9x support. :)

Allright, I'm a push-over.

I'll see what I can do but I don't have access to non-NT systems anymore so expect a lot of trial and error.

I can test on almost all versions of Windows because I have them all installed in vmware (virtual machines). I can also help you with the development if you want. You would need to send me the source of your plugin. I will delete it after making my changes if you don't want to publish it.

Thanks for offering. But I first have to get it loading again.

I removed the specific compiler options and scanned the source for problematic calls but I won't load on the kids' computer.

(Allright I DO have access to 1 W98 computer but it's on the other side of the house and I don't want to run back and forth between compilations  )

I don't find any missing imports but TC can't load it.

I'll try something else later this week.

Maybe you are using functions which do not exist on Win9x? You can search functions on http://msdn.microsoft.com where they list on which operating systems the functions are supported. For example, most Unicode functions only work on WinNT/2k/XP.

Problem in Font.wlx v0.09

Post by *damjang »

I have a little problem with Font.wlx v0.09. When I open for eg. the ms palatino truetype (OpenType 1.2) font Italic version, font.wlx don't show the Palatino Italic but another font (like Arial). It happen only with italic, bold and bold-italic version, but the normal version is good. It happen on win2k and xp... and for more than one font...

(find the fonts to try here: http://www.portaldelosjardines.com.ar/fuentes/index.php?letra=P)
