New idea of WFX plugin : HTTP browser

Post by *fabiochelly »

It would be great to have an HTTP browser like the browser included in GetRight or in FlashGet : this browser can show links to webpages as folders and links to other files as standard files.
When you double click on a file, the download begins and when you double click on a folder, you follow the link and enter the new page.

This would be interesting, but wouldn't you need to also view the webpages?

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

I rather meant that the pages could be shown as files, Enter would open them as if they were a dir and F3 would open up lister and show the page.
What do you think?

Yes it would be perfect like this.
And if the download can be resume, no need to other download software as flashget or getright.

You should be able to specify the depth of recursive copy and filters of files to copy locally so that doing mirrors would be simple.

HTTrack is a cool mirroring tool. And I think it's opensource if something is needed for the plugin.

What do you mean exactly ?

Giving a "structure" like you described, so that each link is a folder with subfolders for other links you would have an "infinite" structure. :!:

First of all I don't know if there is a maximum length for the path handled by a plugin. :?:

Anyway recursive copy would not work because of this infinite structure. You should be able to "put a limit" to this structure... a depth limit

I thought that the plugin work as a standard browser.
It parses the current page (depth = 1) and shows links.
And when you click on a link, it download and shows the new page

What should happen when I use F5 on a folder/link ?

It is a link and you sad that a link is a folder: what does it copy to the other panel? the whole directory/link with its html, images, and recursively its following links?

Or you mean that the plugin would have "sitename:port" as the first level of the structure and then only real folder are represented as folders and html are files? :?: How do you manage links in this case?

In case of a link, it downloads the target html page

Hmm... then a link is not a folder but a simple file? :?: (or it only seem a file if you copy it and is a folder if you press enter on it?

I'm sorry for all these questions, but it seems not simple to define how it should work.

I think that it should be a single file for the beginning.
After that, it would be useful to have the ability to download pages and files with a defined depth.
