Kejatz wrote: 2021-05-05, 11:28 UTC Hi, I'm having trouble making Mmedia play these formats: flv, mp4, mkv.. I have the latest unicode plugin version on Windows 10. What are my options:

1) Do I need a certain codec? (installing FFDShow didn't work)
2) Do I need to change something in the mmedia.ini? (adding all extensions with "MMEXT=" in mmedia.ini didn't work)

Thank you.
The readme tells you to install the LAV filters.
For me with TC 10 there is no longer a need for this plugin, TC also can use the LAV filters.
Personaly I have installed the K-Lite_Codec_Pack_1612_Basic codecs
and the following tools can play any format for me
TC, XYPlorer, Windows Media Player
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3374)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1371a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.2, Listary Pro 6.3.0.69
QAP 11.6.3.2 x64

Do read more carefully, please.
It's not a question about new internal TC player, it's about MMedia wlx plugin. It's clearly stated in the following phrase:

Yes I know and thats the reason why I said
"The readme tells you to install the LAV filters"
This refers to the readme of the mmedia plugin of course.

I also recommend the LAV filters, especially for the MMedia plugin. The ffdshow filters have been discontinued in 2014 and do not support all modern compression methods created e.g. by smartphones. 6 years is a huge amount of time for computing progress.

1. First and foremost it is recommended to install LAV Filters, a small and efficient multi-format decoder supporting a broad range of common multimedia formats. LAV Filter v0.75 installer download

As Christian Ghisler pointed out, the FFDshow filters are fairly outdated and shouldn't be used anymore.

2. It is correct to add the extensions to the 'MMEXT=' string of mmedia.ini, so the multimedia player plugin will attempt to play them.

3. You need to add the file extensions FLV, MP4, and MKV to the Windows Media Player section of your Windows registry, so they are recognized as multimedia formats. I created an archive with the required registry files for download here: https://www.sendspace.com/file/pualzp

Extract the archive and press ENTER on each registry file to add its information to your Windows registry.

4. Alternatively, you can use Total Commander's new built-in Media Player, available in TC v10.00 beta. Total Commander's internal media viewer does not require the above Windows registry entries.

Where did you find that readme? I can see only mention about ffdshow or DirectShow. No LAV filters mentioned, even in this topic before 2020 year.

I just searched the file History.txt for the term 'LAV' and found this line:

Code: Select all

9.12.20 Added: New DirectShow media player: wincmd.ini [Lister] PreloadFilterType32=1 set default for video filters: -1=old video for windows player, 0=let the system choose, 1=recommended filters (LAV filters, ffdshow), 2= user defined via PreloadInputFilters32 and PreloadFilters32 (32)
So in this specific line, you actually do recommend ffdshow, next to the LAV filters. Oops. :)

Yeah, sure.
It's NOT an official build and it's NOT directly linked it this topic. It's only mentioned here a few times, and the first mention is on the 16th page.
So you want newbies to read the whole topic, then to search the whole forum to find that unofficial build, because:
* none moderator cared to add the proper info to the very first message;
* some power luser isn't in mood to provide at once details helpful for newbies.

Here's the topic with link to wlx_mmedia 2.6.2.1 build:

You're welcome.

Does anyone know is it possible to add jump (rewind and fast-forward) keyboard shortcuts somehow? It is a good plugin, capable of playing almost every media file but the lack of jumping in a song (video) by a shortcut (in most players it is Left–Right Arrows) is such a bummer...
