Compare by content when Syncronize directories using WebDAV

Post by *mslav »

Hi!
Many thanks for your great TC and very useful WebDAV addon.

Unfortunately it cannot compare by content when I try to Syncronize directories. It just sets ? sign without actual reading and comparing content.

I will be happy if you can fix it.
Many thanks in advance.

P.S. I've seen the similar question in the common topic and understand your opinion concerning traffic. But in fact I use WebDAV for synchronization with my iPad in my home Wi-Fi LAN. So there is no Internet traffic used, only LAN traffic. I hope you will change your mind and allow me as well as other people to enjoy the full functionality of WebDAV addon 8)

Well, just keep in mind that comparing by content means:

You have to download ALL files to compare it locally byte by byte
=> 100% traffic, 100% time

After this, you may reupload the different files ... lets say 10%
=> +10% traffic, +10% time

In sum you have to spend 110% traffic, 110% time

Even upload ALL files will cost 100% only and saves 10% of traffic and time.
Uploading just newer files only will save a lot of more. :)

If you still insist to see differences you should choose another way:
After all files are once in synch, create a checksum file of your local files and upload it.
Next time you want to synch, create new local checksums and just compare the checksum files.

Of course all your numbers are correct, but I don't care about traffic inside my home LAN. It's just an option, and you can DO NOT activate it when you compare remote files. Really, I don't understand what the problem is.

P.S. Actually I've solved my problem using built-in Windows 7 ability to map WebDAV server as network drive:

net use p: http://192.168.1.35:80/ [password] /user:[login] /persistent:no

So I see my WebDAV as network drive and can compare files by content. And also I can open WebDAV files in any programs so it's much more convenient than using addon.

Thanks for your attention, problem is solved.
