RC1 shows icons of EXE files very slow.

Post by *Dreamer »

After updated to RC1, I found it's very slow to show icons of EXE files. It need to change to the other directory, and change back to see the icons.

Perhaps it's because my TC directory is hided.

But 6.55 shows icons fast, and even Beta 3 is fast too.

Hope the final version be good.

Do you use the separate tree? The EXE icons and the tree are both loaded in the same background thread. So while this thread is busy reading the tree, the EXE icons cannot be loaded.

:) Hello !

• Maybe there is some virus-scanner running in the background while you have Network drives displayed ?
This slows down the icons loading a lot…

- BTW, why is the TC folder hidden at your's ? I wonder to know…

 Kind regards,
Claude

But this is not happen on Network drives, it's on the local drives.

And it happens just after TC is started, and after I have changed to other directory and changed back, the first directory and all other's icons can be shown normally. But if I leave it there, the icons will not be shown.

Unfortunately I don't currently see any reason why TC7 RC1 and beta 3 should load the icons with different speed. Did you first go to the directory with RC1 and then with beta 3? In this case, the icons will be in the Windows ShellIconCache and load quickly...

No, I only use RC1 after update.

I just test beta3 when I found this problem.

And when I did the test, beta3 and rc1 is closed and started separately.

The different is, after beta3 is started, icons is appeared, even though I can feel a little slower than 6.55.

But if I do nothing after RC1 is started, there's no icons apperared, just keep blank.

I have said that my TC directory is hidden by a software called Universal Shield.

If I unhide the TC directory, RC1 can show the icons as beta3. But beta3 and 6.55 can do it while the directory is hiden.

Good news for me is that I only need to endure the first start, as my TC keep there opened all day long.

I'm sorry, I just have a test one more time, the difference between Beta3 and RC1 while my TC directory is hiden:

Beta3 and 6.55 shows this:
http://www.uploadtemple.com/upload/1175158561.png

and RC1 shows this:
http://www.uploadtemple.com/upload/1175158539.png

Beta3 and 6.55 can not refresh the icon automately either.

Defference is Beta3 and 6.55 shows a icon, but RC1 shows nothing.

Sorry for my wrong description up there.

Total Commander has to get the default icon for EXE files from a file in the TC directory. When the TC directory is unreadable, then it will not work. I will check why it worked in TC 7 beta 3.

Great! Thank you, ghisler!
03.04.07 Fixed: Folder and EXE icons were not shown or not correctly when the Totalcmd directory was hidden by a tool like Universal Shield
