option completely hide/remove the parent dir

Post by *rojer_31 »

From this:
http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=107670

I have come to no longer depend on the parent folder (ie., the .. at the top of every page). But I cannot disable or remove the parent folder (except for the root folder -"Show parent dir [..] also in root of drive")
If you use LEFT and RIGHT keys
(LEFT=cm_GoToParent
RIGHT=cm_GoToDir)
for navigation also the parent dir is not necessary. I use both, so right now the parent dir is simply a waste of space on my rather small monitor.

Can the author include an option to disable viewiing the parent folder?

I think it may be useful for many people..

:) Hello !

• I hope that the Author'll give a look to the solutions I proposed in the OTHER THREAD,
especially about an additional flag in the INI entry as a first workaround…

I also find [..] a waste of space as I use the Backspace key to go to the parent dir (same as in Windows Explorer).

It also slows down navigating my e.g. Java code. There I often have directory structures like "com/company/component/...".
The first 2 or 3 directory typically only contain just one directory where I want to navigate in.
With the displayed parent dir [..] I have to press DOWN, RETURN, DOWN, RETURN, ... and so on.
Without a parent dir I would only have to press RETURN, RETURN, RETURN to navigate to some directory depth.

Please add the possibility to remove the parent dir entry not only for root drives but everywhere.

Support!!

I want this very thing in concert with additional tab options:

Code: Select all

[x] Suppress navigate up
     [x] Hide ".." folder
[x] Suppress navigate down
     [x] Hide subfolders

[x] When navigating outside this tab's domain:
   [x] Go to new tab:
[x] At location: folder location [..]
         ---------------------
         [x] Left of current tab
[ ] Right of current tab
         [ ] On left
         [ ] On right
[ ] Goto existing tab: combo box
Licensed, Mouse-Centric, moving (slowly) toward Touch-centric

Oh dear, it looks like I've misspelled my board name. Oh well. :)

Anyway, I've also come to use 100% Backspace and it's even a default that works in conjunction with the Windows Explorer.

It would also help in cases like those where you use thumbnail mode and besides the sheer ugliness, they can consume quite a bit of otherwise useful screen space.

The .. entry (parent directory) in each non-root directory may be a little waste of space, but I like it as handy drop location when moving or unpacking. Now I realized that the .. and \ buttons in the drive bar do NOT work as drop locations, unlike normal drive buttons!
I suggest to get rid of this anomaly. When the .. entry in the directory list could be disabled as suggested by rojer_31, it would be especially important to have an alternative drop location for the parent folder (at least as long as TC does not offer some form of BreadCrumbs).
