[Doubt] Alt + Fx button function.

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[Doubt] Alt + Fx button function.

Post by *Bushi »

Just a doubt since WC and TC.....

You know , when I press those Alt + F3~F8 keys, those functions assigned to the keys combination are working very well.

But I holding Alt key then click F3~F8 buttons on the bottom of TC,
We can get different result:

Alt + F3 (button) --> External Viewer , same as Alt + F3 (key)
Alt + F4 (button) --> Edit , different from Alt + F4 (key) [exit] , same as only F4 (button)
Alt + F5 (button) --> Pack, same as Alt + F5 (key)
Alt + F6 (button) --> Unpack, same as Alt + F6 (key)
Alt + F7 (button) --> Make Dir. , different from Alt + F7 (key) [search] , same as only F7 (key)
Alt + F8 (button) --> Delete , different from Alt + F8 (key) [command line], same as only F8 (key)

I dont know what's considerations of our Ghisler (author) . Just my doubt ...... :? :? ,, Since years... :roll: :wink:

Support. Would be nice if button names were changed when user holds Alt and/or Shift and/or Ctrl to show what will happen. (as it was in NC)

Concerning the second wish, see please Feature request: function key buttons to change with Shift. And just look at the name of the fourth poster. ;)

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Wow! :D
I don't remember this at all!
It was 3.5 years ago!
Thanks, Roman, it's so pleasant to remember good old days!
Nostalgia... Where's Black Dog, btw?

P.S. Maybe Christian has changed his mind, 3.5 years passed...

Sorry, this will never be supported. It's just annoying to see this changed on every key press. It would also require a LOT of translation (in fact, for every command there is).

A (somehow) different point of view:

1. when dragging files over 'F3 View' button a popup menu should open with options like:
- view in Lister
- view in Lister (no plugins)
- view in external viewer

With 'F4 Edit' button:
- Edit
- Edit (choose editor) (in what life? :P)

2. Select files to work with and right click on desired buttons to have the menus mentioned above

3. etc for the rest of the buttons

Another quick one, for the Exit button:
- Exit
- Restart (:P)
TC for Linux please!

Well, that's your last decision, I have no comment...

But I think Alt/Ctrl/Shift + Fx(button) should do same action as Alt/Ctrl/Shift + Fx(key) at least .

You should not take that as last decision because 1.5 months ago only he said that it's not implemented RIGHT NOW...

German thread about the problems with function bar, including a solution without translation work and Servant Salamander screenshot of less annoying function bar:
http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=11750

Updated proposals due to changes in TC 7:
1. Remove all hardcoded shortcuts from TC and replace them with default entries in wincmd.ini [Shortcuts] section.
2. For every function button extract the assigned command from the wincmd.ini [Shortcuts] section.
2.1 Read translation for cm_commands from WCMD_XYZ.INC
2.2 Read translation for em_commands from tooltip in usercmd.ini.
3. Display the translation on the button.

So, again: Where is the translation work, please?

Also the "annoyance" of a dynamical button bar display with pressed modifiers can be easily solved:
FunctionBarToggle=1/0

And also support that the modifiers should be taken in account when a Funktion Key button is pressed.

Support, too! With these enhancements, I might finally activate and use the function bar...

I had forgotten to add that of course the bar should support *at least* 12 function keys, configurable by a new setting FunctionBarButtonNumber=12, not only – what do we have now? – 6 keys + 1 nonsense Alt+F4 shortcut. ;)

Thanks for support, maybe it will help for TC 7.5 or so.

I support this!

I would finally be tempted to turn the function key bar on. :twisted:

I regret to see this topic in the TC7 Behavior which will not be changed. :cry:

But it says nothing about future versions of TC :roll:

12 buttons like key functions number should be the best with the large screen of the actual PCs. 8)

Note that I have never used the "Alt+F4 Exit" button since more than 10 years of daily use of Wincmd/TC. I always use Alt+F4 shortcut or the red cross.
Is there a way to change the function of this last Exit button ? :?:
