Bug in TC icon cache

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Bug in TC icon cache

Post by *VadiMGP »

Easyest way to see this:
1. Put in empty directory 2 files with different icons: file1.ico and file2.ico. TC shows icons correct.
2. Rename file1.ico to file1.ico.tmp
3. Rename file2.ico to file1.ico. TC shows icons incorrect. Near file1.ico appears icon from file1.ico.tmp

Cannot reproduce. WinXP SP2, TC 7.01. Tested also with empty INI file.

Ok. Try instead of "tmp" use some stupid extention like "kkk" or "blablabla"
I've tested it with empty INI file on WinXP SP1, TC 7.0.

Tested with extension "asdfasdf" with TC 7.0 final - still cannot reproduce. Maybe, difference between SP1 and SP2?

Actually this isn't a bug of TC's icon cache - it's a bug of Windows' icon cache (shelliconcache)! You can see it also in Explorer. The two icons must have the exact same size and timestamp to reproduce it.

Ah, that was the case! Yes, now I can reproduce it on XP SP2 too.

PS: The thread should be moved to "TC7 Behaviour which will not be changed", I think...
