Bug Vertical Compare-by-contents cannot scroll to bottom

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Bug Vertical Compare-by-contents cannot scroll to bottom

Post by *lennart.johansson »

Bug in TCV7.01 Eng XPsp2
Compare-by-contents in vertical arrangement cannot scroll to
bottom of the larger file - Scrolling stops about where the smaller
file ends. Both windows always scroll together and when the
upper file ends, the lower file cannot be scrolled further down.

Symptom. With very narrow windows only the last few lines cannot
be reached. With larger windows more lines at end of larger file
cannot be reached.

I compared make files with about 100 lines (99 in one, 121 in other)
with the about 20 lines added in the beginning which are similar
but not same as the original 20 lines which are pushed down.
Lines 116 - 122 cannot be seen in vertical screen.

Might be a problem with the diff functions, not counting lines correctly?

No problems at all with horizonal arrangement of compare-by-contents.

I can not verify this. I tried using files as described:

http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/cbcvertical.png

and I can easily se the last line of both files. Tried with different window sizes.

Maybe you can provide the files you tested it with?

I cannot confirm that either. Please give us two test files! You can send them zipped to beta at ghisler dot com if you cannot upload them anywhere. The size limit is 200 kBytes. Please contact me first if you need to send me a larger file.

It may be related to very specific window sizes (e.g. part of last line is visible) or very special files. So if anyone manages to reproduce it, please give me sample files to test!

I have tested it: It happens if one of the panels is smaller (in height) than the other. TC would have to somehow add empty lines at the end dynamically. Unfortunately I haven't found a way to do that yet in TC 7.02. Maybe in a later version.
