You see, it highly depends on "etc...", for example with a big dictionary size and recovery record (i.e. -md4096 -rr) it just can't be smaller then HA. So, show it ;).[/face]

Well I use solid, md4096, 128mb memory, 63 prediction order in rar; It usually outpaces every other packer, thou some specialized ones (compressia and others) at times are better. I once tried 7z with LZMA and tons of memory, it did quite well (not mentioning the obscene packing times) and the difference was quite negligible, so all in all rar is the current leader with excellent compression and high speed.

it's allways a good idea to read the included helpfiles of a distribution.
in case of 7zip, it's not easy to spot, but it supports different compressionengines.
check out included 7zip.chm.
and try this, you'll be amazed: :!:

7za a -bd -mhcf -m0=BCJ2 -m1=LZMA:d23:a2:mf=bt4b:fb64 -m2=LZMA:d19:a2:fb64 -m3=LZMA:d19:a2:fb64 -mb0:1 -mb0s1:2 -mb0s2:3 -y "%a" "%f"

%a=archivename, %f=files to process (serving filelists is more painless = @filelist insted of "%f")

btw, i love rar too!!!! :D

Hmm, I read the specs before, and tried different methods with 7z as I said earlier. 7z is better than rar in dat/exe department but looses big time in txt's. I tried your method, it's nice, better than the one I used, I tried patching it to use patricia tree match finder but sadly my rig isn't up to the task (memory wise).

Cheers

Just found a neat trick, I created 7zt.addon for multiarc there setting a new extension [7zt] which is basically uses 7z algorithm but with PPMd for text files. So now I have two options of compressing 7z (for binaries) and 7zt (for texts).
P.S. With PPMd 7z beats rar in the txt department...

Thomas1274,
When you join, what was it you wanted me to check out with Uharc (or what it was)?

TIA
Roman
Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.
