VirtualDisk plugin in registry's autorun?

Does the plugin have to be started this way, or is it just for special purposes (automount) and I can safely remove it?

it has to be started that way. you will not be able to mount.

You can remove it, the only purpose of this entry is automatic remounting of images after computer reboot. So if you don't need this feature, this registry entry may be removed and will not affect the plugin functionality. Unfortunately, however, this entry will reapear again as soon as you use the plugin. I did not forsee that some users might not like unused autostart entries…

In version 2.0 which I'm working on there will be an option for disabling this function and not adding the autostart registry entry. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks. Yes, that would be great. Some of us just like to be in control of startup entries.

With the current version you can modify the VirtualDiskAutomount parameter into anything you wish (empty string for instance), the plugin checks for existence the parameter only, not for its actual value.

As a more radical solution, you can just restrict write access for this regustry key at all, so that no program could write anything into the Run key. However, there is huge amount of other places where application can add itself so that the system started them automatically. You can try Autoruns program to see most of these places.
