Why are the updated '64bit' content writers guides .hlp files that can't even be viewed under Win7 natively. Shouldn't they either be a html doc or minimally a .chm file?

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Well I wasn't trying to start a thread ;-)

I just went to take a look at the guides, and couldn't view them in Win7. There's prolly a HLP viewer around somewhere, but the latest push has been for 64 bit... odd to have the updated plugin-guides (for 64 bit) unviewable in a 64bit OS... heh.

There is WinHlp32.exe available from MS: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607

They first remove it to, I don't know, save 300kB? Ehm, no, that doesn't sound very likely. And then offer it for download to solve problem with thousands of old apps using .hlp format. Makes you say wow! ;)

Probably, to give a push to the newer help formats. It's still possible to view HLP if necessary, but many users don't know how to do it or don't want to install additional packages, so they start nagging developers about switching to CHM. Just like in this thread. ;)
