Remove unlocked folder tabs

Post by *tcebob »

I use locked tabs to access frequently used areas. But as I leap between other locations new unlocked tabs appear and gather like leaves. Cleanup is tedious, requiring separate deletion of each one.

I would actually prefer not to see the temporary tabs at all, but failing that, how can I remove them en masse?

Hello, tcebob.

The best way of achieving your goal works like this:
  • You open Total Commander. I assume that right after opening it will display the locked tabs only.
If this is not the case, then arrange tabs as you would like to have them once.
Next right click any of the tab headers and select "save tabs on both sides to file".
Enter a filename and save the current tab configuration to a file. Remember the filename and the folder where the file has been saved.
  • Once create a new button labelled e.g. "Restore saved tabs" and assign the command OPENTABS folder\filename to it. Replace folder\filename by the real names of course.
  • Start working and cluttering T.C. with additional unlocked tabs.
  • In order to restore the original state, click on the newly created button.
HTH,
Karl

Or use this scropt that allows to close any tab, even locked, with a single right click.

Hey, ts242.

You have just demonstrated how simple solutions for seemingly complicated problems can be: <Ctrl><Shift>W or cm_CloseAllTabs. :o

Oh, joy. It appears that ctl-shift-W not only removes the dead tabs but resets TC not to save them at all but only show the current directory. This seems to survive restarts.

TC saves the currently shown tabs when closing, so if there are no tabs, TC will save that too. If the tab header is hidden, you can press Ctrl+T to show it.
