Does TC work in a "terminal services environment"?

Post by *afilipi »

Hello,

Is TC compatible with terminal services environment? (I only have a vague understanding what it is, and have no idea how to test TC's compatibility.) Also, does it say anywhere in the TC documentation whether the application is compatible with terminal services? I could not find it in History.txt

Backround: We use Citrix servers in my company. I have been using TC under the Citrix environment since 2003 (I installed the application under %USERPROFILE% because I don't have write permission to the Program Files folder). I have never had a problem and none of the people who work with me on the same server had a problem when I was using TC. Our IT people flipped out today when they found out, and said they need to test TC before I can use it on Citrix. I am looking for ideas how to help them in their testing to speed things up. For example, a good first step would be if TC was written with terminal services in mind.

Yes, it is compatible, several companies are using Total Commander via Citrix and terminal services. It's also compatible with the TC licence - you may use TC with your own single user licence on as many computers as you want, even at the same time. However, it's strongly recommended to get the OK from the IT department to run your own software on their computers.

TC is storing its settings by default to the "Application data" directory, so there will be no problem with settings. You can also access the local drives: TC picks them up if they can be accessed through the \\tsclient location. If the name is different, you can add
tsclient=other server name
to your wincmd.ini.

Thanks, Christian. It will help to have the statement about compatibility from the author himself.

License: I did not know I could use TC on multiple machines. That's why I bought two licenses - one for my laptop and the other for the Citrix server. :)
