Internal file lister - search \

Post by *namiltd »

Internal file lister (8.0beta22) does not search for a '\'. To search for that char I must type string '\\'.

Not confirmed. Both '\' and '\\' work, even though they shouldn't. From TC's help:
Special characters when searching:
\t Tabstop
\n Newline
\\ Single Backslash
Currently there is a kind of inconsistency - single backslash ("\") can be found by "\" or "\\". Only the second one should work (similarly, "\\" can be found only by "\\\\", which is right).

This is called user friendliness. If you enter a single backslash only as your search term what else could you wish to search for if not backslash?

An escaped nothing? :P

Hello, Hacker.

I do not quite understand what your reply aims at. Does not matter, however.
The reported bug is no bug. First of all searching for backslash does work inside T.C. lister. Second searching for backslash by using the correct spelling and typing two backslashes does work as well.
So case closed.
Thread moved to dustbin.

karlchen,

Well, it is aimed at you. :) A backslash is used to escape the following character. If nothing follows the backslash then nothing will be escaped - thus the escaped nothing. :)

Hi, Roman.

I wrote that I did not quite understand what your reply aimed at, not whom it aimed at. So "at you" is not a valid answer in this case.

Anyway, the initial post reported as a bug that searching for '\' did not work in lister. But it does.
So the bug report is no bug report. And as a consequence this thread should not be kept in the "TC8.0 bug reports (English)" sub-forum, but be moved elsewhere.

Cheers,

If using a single backslash is an intended feature, I don't mind. But it surprised me, because it's a non-standard behavior. So, at least, it should be mentioned in help.

I'm not sure why this thread (and a few others) is in "TC bugs which should be fixed now" - nothing has changed. Wouldn't "TC Behaviour which will not be changed" be a better place?
