pressing spacebar to get amount of bytes in DIR doesnot work

Post by *GeminiAlpha »

pressing spacebar to get amount of bytes in DIR doesnot work
using tc80x32rc1.exe in vista.
reverted to tc80x32beta25.exe, it works again.

cannot figure out what's up.
did a search, cannot find any clues.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

2GeminiAlpha: check your wincmd.ini.
An entry

Code: Select all

CountSpace=0
disables the count of bytes.

No such entry or

Code: Select all

CountSpace=1
enables the count of bytes.

reverted again to tc80x32rc1.exe, spacebar doesn't work, only thing that happens is that the directory got marked. No byte count.
in windows XP works fine. 4/30/12
in windows 7 works fine. 5/3/12
btw CountSpace=1 is in wincmd.ini.

more/another suggestions?

should this thread in another sub-forum?
in "TC8.0 bug reports (English) perhaps?

Who is willing to put it there? (move?)

Please try with clean INI: start TOTALCMD.exe with parameter /i=C:\new.ini.

After going back to tc80x32beta25.exe once, I saw it works fine.
Again I installed the update with tc80x32rc1.exe
and NOW the byte count with space bar works!
The "dir Line" is marked and the bytecount is displayed
I dit not have to give it a try with the startup option /i=C:\new.ini
but I'm going to try this anyway to see if anything changes.
I saved my original wincmd.ini to get back where I should be.

anyway, thanks for helping, I feels a bit clumsy.

I tried with a new ini file, works fine too, I reverted to original ini file and it still works fine.

Searching, syncing or multi-renaming (before selecting folders) can cause this problem, it's a rather old bug.
We are not so S.M.A.R.T. as we imagine...

Actually this problem has already been fixed in Beta 23. I'm not aware of any changes which would have returned the problem, and I can't reproduce any problem with RC1 myself. Does it stop working after using some specific function?

No specific functions used AFAIK. Just ran the update as described. No open programs in taskbar; just some running programs in systray.
After my post "Thu 03 May 2012 8:16" I tried to reproduce the reported flaw several times in the way I described in my thread, but I didn't succeed. I'm afraid I cannot give any (new) info at this moment. I will be very attending with the next update to RC2.
best regards, Rudolf NL.

In versions before beta 23, it was caused by "copy in background": F5 - F2. Do you use this? Maybe there is still a problem with it?

now running 8.0rc1. Did a copy of a dir, ordered it to background copy,
then pressed spacebar on another DIR. first questionmark, then bytecount displayed. No problem.
Do you want me to try it with beta25?

No, but please let me know if the error appears again in RC1 (or later).

Nice to hear that! Please let us know if it should happen again, and under which conditions.
