Windows 7 preview window updating

Post by *wanderer »

Under Windows 7, one can hover the icons of the taskbar and see a "live" preview of the open windows (aero peek - all windows dim and only the hovered window is shown on screen). While copying a large file, if the mousepointer hovers over TC's window, the copy dialog is not refreshed. It just shows a static image of the "filecopy progress window" the moment TC had lost focus. Is that normal? Is there something TC can do in order to show an actual representation of the filecopy progress without having to click on it and activate the window?

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

I don't think so, this preview is done entirely by Windows. TC does show the green progress indicator in the taskbar, though.

I imagined that, but i hoped there was perhaps a notification or something that could be sent to Windows in order to inform them that this application wishes its preview window to be shown "live" and not "static". Anyway, never mind.

Indeed, that's something...

Thanks for the info.

Hmmm... Some more info on the matter. I just noticed one of Firefox's addon windows (specifically the one that is created by the Versions firefox addon - the one inspired by the respective Versions addon for TC). This window is live-updated, and i mean not only the small preview window but also the live window that appears when you hover the mouse over the preview window for 1-2 seconds. There must be something that needs to be sent to Windows in order to activate live-update of the peeked-windows. It's not the most important thing but it would certainly be nice to have it.

Anyone out there has a clue how to activate aero-peek-window live-updating?

I don't think there is anything to enable. All applications, including TC, have their taskbar thumbnails automatically updated. Only minimized applications are not updated.

But I noticed another thing, not sure if it's intentional. Let's say, I select a few files and start a copy operation. Through aero-peek (hover over TC's taskbar thumbnail), I can see completely everything - a progress window and TC unselecting one copied file after another. But the taskbar thumbnail itself is showing only TC's main window, not the progress window. Video: http://s1057.photobucket.com/albums/t399/uumbra8/TC/?action=view&current=22-5-taskbar.mp4 It's a clean installation of TC, I changed only colors to make it more visible.

Hmmm, perhaps this the reason why i didn't see any updates(?). Anyway, i'll keep an eye on it...

Drag'n'dropping a file to another location in order to copy it has the same effect. Only TC's main window appears in the thumbnail preview window. AlwaysCopyInBackground=2. Funny...
