Interesting, but what icons would you like to see there? A big majority of folders on a computer have the same standard icon, so what would be the benefit of showing them?

If you want to have different icons you can change them.

For color-coding and locked state indication.

I don't know what you mean by "color-coding", but if it's coloring tabs to create a kind of groups (something like Internet Explorer has), then I would prefer to color the whole tab header, not just a small icon in it. But as a workaround a colored icon would be sufficient.

Yes, you can. But my point still stands. Only a negligible amount of folders on your drive would have special icons, and people usually don't stay in the same folders all the time.

But a feature, that would allow me to set, what type of icon a tab should have, would be interesting. Something like:
a/ standard windows icon
b/ custom icon selected in TC
c/ custom color selected in TC
(b/ and c/ would not change by changing a directory in the tab)

TWinKey can both colorize tabs or draw icons on them.

I can't activate "tab icons" from TWinKey Utilisator. All fields are not active.

Is this the right way to install the TWinKey plugin? From TC interface, Configureaion>Options>Plugins. Then click configure on "content plugins .[WDX] and browse for TWinKey.wdx

If TC8.0 is of 64-bit version, TWinKey will not work properly.
Otherwise it is strange that you don't see the TwinKey.ini file. Are you running TC as admin? Is not your TWinKey folder write protected?
TWinKey help wrote:All files(TWinKey.wdx, TWinKey.ini and TwinkUtil.exe) must be in the same directory
You an create this file manually by the format:

Code: Select all

[Something]
TabIcon=c:\path\to\icon.ico
...
[ViewModes]
Something=<None>
Also, try restarting TC. And finally, try to set some other option in the Utilisator, and then see if TwinKey.ini is created.

It created the TWinKey.ini but still can't set icons for tabs. I am using Windows XP 32 bit.

In TwinKey,
1) Create a ViewMode
e.g. MP3s
Description: MP3 Folders
Bckg Color: (none)
Tab Color: Purple
Tab Icon: <Choose an Icon>
Background Picture .\Cover.jpg

2) Create an Auto Switch
[x] Enable
[x] Keep manual view switching in the same scope
View Mode [MP3s]

Match___________Pattern
CAN CONTAIN: M:\Audio\*
MUST CONTAIN: *\_ARTIST_\*\*

--- Which will activate the Tab color and icon in any folder that matches the folder patterns such as:
M:\Audio\_ARTIST_\Amanda Marshall\1995_Amanda Marshall\*.*

It will also use as the background image "Cover.jpg" if such a file exists within the folder.

I used icon #9 extracted from quartz.dll
