TwinKey is a little finicky in the beginning for the Folder/Tab customizations, but once you figure out the CAN CONTAIN/MUST Contain auto switches it is pretty straight forward and makes sense.
I think the language of CAN CONTAIN/MUST CONTAIN is misleading... it's more like:
CAN CONTAIN -> MUST START WITH (if its an absolute path with drive letter)
MUST CONTAIN -> MUST HAVE this text in the path name.
*BLINK* TC9 Added WM_COPYDATA and WM_USER queries for scripting.
Too many problems for simple thing as showing icons on tabs, something that other file managers has as option to enable/disable. I don't understand how TC as considered the most popular file manager since it is not user friendly at all.
I don't know that TC is the most popular, its possibly the most powerful - but that has come at the expense of general-usability:
* Features not added to main program if possible by plugin --
--- Not necessarily a bad thing, but in many instances a native implementation of a feature would work better, be maintained by the author and be faster (more efficient) - e.g. Auto Calculation of folder-sizes to be displayed.
* Gui customizations that other FileManagers deem standard features are completely missing in TC. Multiple toolbars, etc.
* Inconsistencies between functionality of TC's various elements:
--- Start Menu, Directory Hotlist, ButtonBar, Command Line.
Instead of a unified command structure, there are differences in what one can do in all of those places.
Many key features that TC has though are missing in other FileManagers. So we're in an odd-place now, where other software/FileManagers have advanced in many places - useability/customization ... but are missing TC features that we need. So there is no longer an optimal program to use for the task... though we stick with TC as the lack of said customization and ease-of-use can be worked around (possibly inefficiently...) but it's not possible to work around missing "power" in other FileManagers.
I agree, that it's easier to tolerate a slightly worse usability than a missing feature. But the fact, that one needs so many 3rd party applications just to make TC more user-friendly is a bit unnerving.
To configure it, you need TC Configuration Manager. To set up plugins, there is TC Plugins Manager. Making it's UI better - the not exactly stable TWinKey. Basic support for common archives - Total7zip. Sometimes I wonder, if TC isn't too dependent on external tools.
