Startup Issues With TC64

Post by *dfaha1 »

I am having an issue launching TC64 on my win7 (64 bit) machine. I have recently updated to win7 from XP (clean install), and one of the first things I did was intall TC. I can open and use TC32 with no problems, but when I attempt to open TC64 the program immediately closes (within a second - no splash screen, nothing). (I am assuming a closure as it does not actually come up and task manager sometimes see it as a task, but most times not). There is no event data to help me determine why the program closes.

I would prefer to use the 64 bit version as I am running a 64 bit OS. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try running with clean ini (just rename existing wincmd.ini to something like wincmd000.ini).

Removed wincmd.ini from folder and tried to open TC64 again... No Luck... I then tried to open TC32 and it worked just fine... Tried TC64 yet again and still did not launch...

Hello, dfaha1.

You might use Process Hacker or the process list view of Windows task manager to make sure no instance of totalcmd64.exe is still loaded, prior to launching Total Commander x64 using an empty INI file.
In case there are any left over totalcmd64.exe instances, terminate them.

Also make sure that you have not - by accident - configured any kind of compabitility mode for Total Commander x64.

Kind regards,

Karl,

Thanks for the suggestion, and alas still no luck. I even went as far as to reboot the machine such that I knew an existing instance of TC64 was not running.

As for the compatability that has not been touched.

It is almost as if another application, say anti-virus, is closing TC64 as it launches (though why would TC32 be able to launch but not TC64). I have looked for log files that would indicate that the program was terminated by something like an anti-virus softare but have found nothing not even in the event viewer...

Some things you can try:
1. Re-download TC 64-bit from www.ghisler.com to make sure you have the official release
2. Install to c:\totalcmd instead of somewhere under "Program Files"

ghisler,

I have just finished trying as you suggested with the same results. I have even tried killing processes one at a time to see if there was some sort of confilct with another running process, but that too has yielded nothing... :(

Sorry, I haven't heared from any other users with this problem. It must be some other program interfering with TC , either an antivirus, or a virus.
