TC takes forever to load when on network path

Post by *tetardd »

This is what happened:
1- Opened TC and display list of files on a network folder (t: drive) whose access was very slow (was showing the "wait" window with Cancel button and took 20-30 seconds to load).
2- Closed TC
3- Try to reopen TC. Splash screen was showed for a long time while trying to access the network drive.
4- Eventually, this failed (internal timeout?) and c: drive content was displayed instead. But this wait meant staring at a "frozen" splash screen for too long. As I wanted this time to access c: anyway, that was wasted time waiting for t: to wake-up.

Suggestion:
1- Don't load folder content while main window is hidden.
2- Load and display folder content at startup only once main window is shown.
3- This way, if at startup it takes too long to load the folder contents, display the "wait" windows with possibility to cancel (as currently done) and go to c:.

Alternatively, have a shorter timeout for failure to load at startup.

Open Configuration dialog > Refresh page and type \ in the field labeled "Don't remember these drives on exit:"

OK, that would be a nice solution when a network drive is always slow but in my case, it's often fast, sometimes slow and I prefer to remember them on exit, simply not slow down the system on startup.
