Total Commander won't start from shortcut, will from CMD

Post by *NetCaptive »

Hello,

Recently Total Commander stopped loading via shortcut (or when started from explorer by browsing to the file). This happened after i installed a bunch of new plugins.

No problem, i figured i had a bad plugin, so I removed all the plugins and it still refused to start. I also tried using the "Repair Shortcuts" option in the (un)install tool. Today i completely removed TC and deleted the program folders (which remained with my key file) then reinstalled and still it won't start.

Interestingly, i *can* start TC from the CMD prompt.

Is there a log file i can dump to see what's going on? Anyone have ideas? I've also tried to reboot... no help.

System info:
Windows 7 x64 using x64 TC 8.01

Try to start TOTALCMD.exe with parameter /i=path_to_new_ini_file.ini. Also try to create wincmd.ini in TC dir with parameter UseIniInProgramDir=7 in section [Configuration]. This will prevent your TC from using old buggy configurations.

Thanks for the tip, i tried that and it starts TC with default settings (running from CMD still). I then close TC and edit the new wincmd.ini file to add the configuration setting your suggest to the ini file. It still won't launch from the shortcut or explorer (only from CMD). I even tried to edit the shortcut to put the /i=<path> and it still doesn't work.

Looks like you've killed *.lnk association?
Ukrainian Total Commander Translator. Feedback and discuss.

All my other lnk's work. Also, trying to run directly from Explorer or from the Run dialog fails.

To make matters more interesting, i've completely uninstalled the x64 and installed x86 and it's working perfectly now.
