Multi-rename Tool Helper and Multiple Rules

Post by *risk »

A couple of suggestions for the Multi rename tool:

1. For when you want to use a sub-string of the file name, i.e. [N23-28], it would be helpful to have a screen ruler over the Old Names column or a way to highlight the characters in the old string.

2. I know you can apply rename rules, then you can click reload to apply additional rules to previously selected files. It would be nice if multiple rule sets can be defined and applied all at once.

1. Just click on the [N#-#] button. When nothing is selected, TC will show you the longest name, otherwise the name you clicked on. You can then use the mouse or Shift+Cursor keys to select the characters, and the right numbers will be generated for you.

2. I have considered this - technically it would be easy, but I didn't find a way to present it to the user in a user-friendly way.

@ghisler

Take a look at EmEditor, here was a suggestion of mine to Yutaka to reorganize the layout of the existing feature: Batch Replace Dialog.

When you Edit/Open one of the steps, their values are placed in the fields
Find:
Replace:

just like TC does when you load a single-step regex from your saved/favorites.
