Multi rename tool: Folder with "extension"? Why?

Post by *Laszlo »

8.04 x64 MRT rename bug

Hi,

So I have a directory with the following sub-directories:

[2001.01.01] something
[2001.01.02] something

And so on. I want to Multi rename the directories to just "something". So select all files, multi rename tools, select range, and I can't select "[2001.01.01] something" in the select the characters to insert popup, just only "[2001.01".

I assume TC thinks .01 is the extension. I tried without the dots, like

[20010101] something
[20010102] something

And I can select the whole "[20010101] something" something in the popup window.

Not quite, but TC treats everything after the last dot as extension, in this case ".01] something".

You could remove the dots or replace them with dashes or something like that (and then make the final rename operation).

I don't know. On the one hand, directories don't really have extensions - at least from a user's point of view. On the other hand, directories are just special files with the "Directory" flag - from a technical standpoint.

I think that TC's behaviour could be improved to distinguish files from directories and make it more user friendly.

Well, for now you either have to combine [N#-#] with [E#-#], or you can use [A#-#] for such cases.
