Multi-Rename Tool: [N#_# Range] function change in v6

Post by *lacro »

Does anyone knows why the Multi-Rename tool procedure changed, and how to fix it ? I mean when I choose this option from the files menu, and make it happen (CTRL+M), a diaolg box/ legend appears "Select the characters to insert"? and the [N#_# Range] function, ceased to work like before?

Tks in advance, Regards,
Carlos L.

[N#_# Range]
It seems to work in V6.01 just fine, but I didn't get the dialog box you mentioned.

I note that where you're using a _ character the rename tool uses a - character. That's probably a typo but I'm mentioning it in case you really *have* used an underscore.

lacro,
What behavior do you expect and what behavior do you get?

TIA

@lacro:
Install 6.02 Beta 3, the prob is solved there.

After opening MRT press [N#-#N] WITHOUT clicking any file first, press OK and you will have what you expected, longest filename has been chosen.

In the new dialog box you can mark those parts of the filenames you wanna change without the need to try and error like it was before.

Multi-Rename Tool

Post by *lacro »

In the left "Rename mask: file name" box section from the Multi-Rename tool window, there are 5 shortcut buttons. I used to press (without selecting any file from the list), the one which says <[N#-#]Range>*, and a box which let me arrange the characters' string poped up.

Now, instead of that, another box appears with the legend "Select the characters to insert:", with the name of a file from the list, where I can't change, delete or insert anything... as I did before.

*Right your are, it should had been a - character instead of an underscore.

Hope I helped to clarify my own inquiry.
Tks again,

Have you read my answer?
You can't edit the string right in the box, it's only used to mark those parts of the filename you wanna pipe to the box "Rename mask: file name".
But, Beta 3 is needed:

Further explanation

Post by *IGL »

Hey, previously button [N#-#] worked in this way that it just made a tag [N1-23] or similiar with the range enclosing the longest filename.
Currently it has been improved. After pressing a button there is a dialog with filename of selected file (or if no file is selected then of the longest filename - Great!). In that name you cannot edit anything (it's readonly) but you can select a portion of filename and to indicate which letters you want to have included in [N#-#] tag. By default whole name is selected so when you press OK it will produce string [N1-xx] as it was in older version.
But if you select with mose or keyboard only a part of string - then TC will generate command enclosing only those selected characters, eg you have a string and bold represents what you have selected:
SomeFileName
The word file is selected. It will produce string [N5-8] - and the result of this tag is string "File". It is for your convenience so that you do not have to count characters.
If you want to edit name (add your own characters) then do it in the box where tag [N1-xx] appears.

Replace at with proper sign, underscores with nothing and delete NO_SPAM legend.

Tks,
I'm confused, Is there some post missing? Or it is a filename to be renamed?
If yes then instead of using [N#-#] tag I would use Search & Replace in Multi rename tool. (although it may take two or three passes)
replace "_" with "", replace (at) with @, replace NO_SPAM with ""
Or am I mistaken and you just provide your email address?

You can enter your email address in your profile so everyone can reach you through the web board email function.
No need for strange anti spam tricks, the address isn't revealed anyway... ;)
