Cursor to the first file

Post by *MarianD »

It would be useful to add the command (and keyboard shortcut) for selecting the first file, just after the last directory.

Hi, you can create a custom shortcut to internal command "cm_GoToFirstFile".

see TC\TOTALCMD.INC

cm_GoToFirstFile=2050;Place cursor on first file in list

Tip:
Use Extended English Menus for Total Commander (by petermad)

Than you get:
Menu Navigate > Go to First File

Thank you, so the command already exists. But probably it is not possible for users to assign the keyboard shortcut to it, so may I ask the author of TC?

Sorry, but I don't understand. Are you not allowed (by system admin or someone) to configure your TC?

To umbra:

Is it possible to customize keyboard shortcuts in TC? May you tell me how, please?

menu Configuration->Options...->Misc.-> section Redefine hotkeys

Prepare a shortcut combination, then click on the magnifier glass icon, find a command you want and when you are done, click on the tick icon (next to the magnifier glass icon).
There is also a contextual help everywhere in TC - just press F1 in almost any dialog/window.

To umbra:

Oh, thank you very, very much! I searched in Options, but I totally missed "Misc.". So this problem is completely resolved, and many others, at least for me!

Did you know that the absent of this feature bothered me for years and you helped me immediately?

One more thank.

herman5,
There is no "Pos1" on usual keyboards and on those where it is it does not place the cursor on the first file.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

I beg to differ - most keyboard have a HOME key and it does what OP asks for....

herman5,
Home yes, Pos1 no. And it does not do what the OP asks for.

"Home" and "Pos1" are two different labels for one and the same key.
At least as far I have seen this over the years.

That key jumps to first (top) item (no matter if folder or file) in the list.
Not implicitly to first FILE, but mostly to first FOLDER.
